William Taylor Adams, better known by his pen-name Oliver Optic, was a famous academic, member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives and one of the best-paid authors of his time. He wrote perhaps a thousand short stories and over 125 books, most of them for a boy audience.
"Haste and Waste; Or, the Young Pilot of Lake Champlain. A Story for Young People" was published in 1866. Together with other Oliver Optic's literary works, this one is based on his travelogue experience.
