How Much Would You Sacrifice For Love?
With nothing but a strong back and a barrel full of ambition, August Wolff finds wealth beyond measure in the frozen goldfields of the Klondike. Success, however, comes at an unbearably high price. Now Gus walks alone, and all the money in the world can't buy him what he needs.
In the late 1800's, when women are largely seen and not heard, Amelia Starling longs for a life limited only by her imagination. Blessed with abundant artistic talent and an even bigger heart, she moves to the boomtown of San Francisco, hoping to make her mark and living with the pain of a sacrifice no woman should have to make.
Two wounded yet defiant individuals meet at the dawn of a new century, discovering a passion eclipsing all they'd ever known. Longing to build a life together, can they overcome the dictates of a cruel and spiteful society?
The Art of Love is the first novel of A.B. Michaels' dual-genre series, "Sinner's Grove." The series chronicles the family and friends of a world-famous artists' retreat on the northern California coast, with stories following both historical and contemporary tracks. Each book can be read separately, or together for greater depth. Other titles in the series include the contemporary suspense novels Sinner's Grove and The Lair, as well as the upcoming direct sequel to The Art of love, called The Depth of Beauty.
Author's Note: "The idea for 'Sinner's Grove' started more than ten years ago while I was living in San Anselmo, a small town north of San Francisco in Marin County, California. If you drive due west from there, you'll eventually come to Pt. Reyes National Seashore. The land in between is gorgeous, with a series of little communities giving way to dairy farms which then morph into hills and redwoods and magnificent coastline. My sister-in-law and I would poke around the area and wonder aloud what it would be like to live there, a world apart from the crazy energy of the San Francisco Bay Area. We brainstormed and came up with a fictional bayside village which we called Little Eden. And you know where there's Eden, there's got to be a little sin ... and the idea for Sinner's Grove was born."
