ROMAN DE BRUT AND THE CHRONICLE OF THE NORMAN CONQUEST BY WACE includes two works. The first of the these is the ROMAN DE BRUT, a verse history of Britain based on Geoffrey of Monmouth's semi-fictional HISTORY OF THE KINGS OF BRITAIN. This early Arthurian work is the first to mention the legend of King Arthur's Round Table and to name Arthur's sword Excalibur.

THE CHRONICLE OF THE NORMAN CONQUEST is an account of the Norman invasion and conquest of England in 1066, ostensibly commissioned by King Henry II of England. The work includes an account of preparation for the Battle of Hastings, perhaps based on oral history from eyewitness accounts.
