Francis Bret Harte was an American author and poet, who worked in a number of different professional capacities including miner, teacher, messenger and journalist before turning to full time writing in 1871. He became famed for his short fiction featuring gold diggers. Harte had mastered the genre of gold rush fiction, capturing the corruption and greed in nostalgic prose, with vivid descriptions of the myriad characters he had known and the wild new frontier lands he had travelled.
"Trent's Trust, and Other Stories" is a volume of short western fiction stories, published in 1903. We present you the collection of witty, sometimes heart-rending tales of frontier California. Ambrose Bierce called Harte's humor "incomparable," and the highlights of Harte's oeuvre helped establish the foundations of western American fiction. Enjoy the reading.
