Newton Booth Tarkington was an American novelist and dramatist. He was one of only three novelists to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction more than once. Tarkington was an unabashed Midwestern regionalist, if somewhat of a world traveler, and set much of his fiction in his native Indiana. Although Tarkington never earned a college degree, he got many awards recognizing and honoring his skills and accomplishments as an author.
This is an early Tarkington's work, he used some several themes changing only slightly the viewpoint in which it was told or a minor change to the circumstances in the stories. The scene of the action took place in Europe. The story described the life of the American, who moved to France. He was admired of French pictorial art.
