A nobel Prize winning Irish dramatist and author, one of the founders of the Irish Literary Revival, William Butler Yeats is considered one of the twentieth century's key English language poets.
The Morality play "The Hour Glass" was first performed in 1903 and had so great success, that became latter the part of the Abbey Theatre's repertoire. The play served as a sort of transition to Yeats' later poetic plays based on Irish legend. Following "The Hour Glass", a series of legendary dramas appeared: "The Shadowy Waters", "On Baile's Strand", "The King's Threshold", "Deirdre", and "The Green Helmet", all of which were produced with high degrees of success.
We are glad to present you the play, written by the recognized master of playwriting, who, according with T.S. Eliot's opinion, was one of the few whose history is the history of their own time, who are a part of the consciousness of an age which cannot be understood without them. Enjoy the reading!
