William Ralston Shedden-Ralston was an English writer and linguist, mostly known as an expert on Russian life and popularizer of Russian folklore and literature.
"The Three Copecks" is a legend, entered in "Russian Fairy Tales, A Choice Collection of Muscovite Folk-lore". The story tells about a poor little orphan-lad, who has nothing at all to live on. So he goes to a rich man and hires himself out to him, agreeing to work for one copeck a year. In such a manner a poor, but kind and honest little orphan starts his way from poverty to happiness and riches.
