The events in this story occur in 2010. Gil Lamont is a veteran US Army Sergeant in the Military Police Criminal Investigation Service. He has married one Armentrude Chemin, a glamorous Interpol Agent who lives in Paris. They have an infant son called Clement, and Gil is forced to find work to support them.
