"Mary Jorjorian in Love" is a romantic drama set among Armenian immigrants in March 1921, Jacksonville, Florida. Mary is a New Yorker, twenty years old, who has been living with her older sister and brother-in-law, and has suddenly fallen in love with a family friend and housemate, Daniel Eliseian. Daniel is a 26-year-old tailor, a talented violinist, and kindred spirit for Mary. He is also much in love with her. But life is complicated. The unambiguous expression of feelings can sometimes lag behind countervailing situations; and actions that are not fully informed can sometimes crush young hearts. So, even more suddenly than she's fallen in love, Mary finds herself heartbroken. The misunderstanding takes place among friends, family, and colleagues, who are trying to find their places in life, love, and career.
This is "Part One" of a projected five-part series under the title, "Mary Jorjorian in Love."
Terry Carroll is the author of "Among the Fourth Graders" (2013), a non-fiction novel that presents a year-in-the-life of a San Francisco elementary school. He is also a photographer, whose work is presented in the monograph, "Relationships" (2008), a retrospective of thirty years of his images (1977 - 2007). A native of San Francisco, born 1960, he earned a bachelor's degree in creative writing and a master's degree in American history, both from San Francisco State. In 1983 he fell in love with Mary's youngest grandchild. They now reside in Oakland, and he can be found at TerryCarroll.com.
