An unlikely friendship develops between
two young boys during the long winter of
1840. Brady McCall, ten years of age, and
Franklin T. Stilwell, fifteen, are thrown
together in St. Joseph, Missouri, where their
families have relocated to wait for an early
start westward in the spring. The boys forge
an alliance that will determine the course of
the rest of their lives, as unforeseen
