The Betrothed

'The Betrothed' is a historical novel first published in 1825 that appears to be the first part of 'The Tales Of The Crusaders', followed up by the novel 'The Talisman'. The story is set in the times of ruling of Henry II. The novel gained recognition among the literary critics, but Walter Scott himself wasn't satisfied with the novel's quality and didn't want to finish it. Eventually the novel was used for writing the text for Verdi's opera 'Aroldo'.
