A Study in Scarlet is a detective mystery novel written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This is a novel where Doyle firstly introduces his new characters "consulting detective" Sherlock Holmes and his friend and chronicler, Dr. John Watson, who later will become two of the most famous characters in literature world referring to detective genre. The story itself was written in 1886 and didn't attract huge auditory, but only after following stories and adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, A Study in Scarlet appeared as the best beginning novel in series of Sherlock Holmes. A Study in Scarlet is divided into two parts where Dr. Watson narrates his return from Afghanistan, his acquaintance with a strange looking man, later turned out Sherlock Holmes and their collaborative investigation of the murder.
