Thomas Hardy is an English writer, poet, novelist and the last representative of the Victoria's age.

The young Bathsheba Everdene inherited from his uncle a rich farm, employed workers and started a business energetically. Among workers there was a ruined farmer Gabriel Oak who was an honest and experienced man. Once Gabriel asked her hand but failed. Then Bathsheba was asked to marry her neighbor – a rich farmer William Boldwood. But a crotchety lady denies this offer as well. She tells William that she needs time to think. After a little amount of time she meets Frank Troy who is a narcissist handsome sergeant and that meeting becomes fatal.
