The Model Millionaire

"The Model Millionaire " is a short story, entered in the collection "From Lord Savile's Crime and Other Stories", published in 1891. The story tells about Hughie Erskine, a poor, but heartful kind man, who once dropped in to see a great friend of his, Alan Trevor, a painter. Hughie found him in process of spelling a wonderful life-size picture of a beggar-man. He was a wizened old man, with a face like wrinkled parchment, and he looked so forlorn and wretched that Hughie could not help pitying him, so he gave the sovereign into the beggar's hand. But soon together with Hughie the readers will discover, that beggar is not the one he appeared before, and the Hughie's action will acquire the consequences.
