This trilogy of oral stories is told from the point of view of a descendent of early Colorado pioneers who later became a Peace Corps Volunteer to the Caroline Islands in Micronesia and then returned to the Islands thirteen years later with his young family.
BOOK ONE remembers the family oral accounts of a newly married Irish immigrant couple as they made their way West to Colorado in a covered wagon. It recounts the struggles, hopes and fears of their lives as they pushed forward to a place of fresh starts and fortunes. But the Western Frontier was a wild, dangerous, and bloody place with some surprising villains and even more surprising heroes. There is also a closer look at how the Colorado Native Americans lost not only their lives and land, but also their age-old way of life.
BOOK TWO describes a Peace Corps Volunteer's adventures in Micronesia during an era of enthusiasm imbued with the youthful contagious idealism of President John Kennedy, however over-shadowed by the nightmare of the Vietnam War. The Caroline Islands in Micronesia, despite their tropical allure, were recovering from World War II devastation, Japanese occupation, and a deadly cholera epidemic.
BOOK THREE happens thirteen years later when the author returned to the South Pacific with his wife and three young children to help a "hard of listening" Catholic Missionary build a church on Punlap Island. There he stumbled upon obvious questionable behavior being hidden away in the Caroline Outer Islands by a white Bishop and Jesuit Superiors with misplaced loyalty. It also quickly becomes apparent that church building was not the main reason for this family's adventure to Punlap.
All three books are woven together by the common threads of faith, hope and love. These compelling stories are accompanied by many unique and rare photos to help the reader better experience the different times and cultures.
