The Adventure of the Little Antiquary

"The Adventure of the Little Antiquary" is the story narrated by the author about his friend, the doctor, who was a thorough antiquary: a little, rusty, musty old fellow, always groping among ruins. As narrator says, the doctor relished an old building as Englishmen relish a cheese, the more mouldy and crumbling it was, the more it was to his taste. The true welth for doctor was not the money or benefits, but certain valuables, for example, family reliques or ancient treatise. Once working in one Italian city, he saw the band of young fellows of rough and saucy demeanor, clad in a singular manner, half peasant, half huntsman, who moved to him... The doctor had a little money in his pocket, but he had the precious treatise on the Pelasgian cities; he would gladly gave all the money in his pocket to keep the manuscript safe...
