Over the years, love came into my life in many ways—my children, husband, family members, and friends. I was familiar with human love, but I had never felt this level of affection from and for a dog...until I met Sally.

This little white dog was intended as a gift for my husband Mike to help him overcome the grief of losing Harry, his border terrier. But Sally quickly attached herself to me, and I to her. I can’t explain why it happened, but she and I developed a bond I didn’t know could exist between a dog and a person.

My life moved forward. My children moved out. I founded a publishing business. I lost friends and gained new ones. But the one constant has been my Sally.
