Bierce A Stranger

Last at night a stranger approaches to a group of people around a campfire, telling them that they are not the first to explore the region. The man starts to narrate a harrowing tale of four men who thirty years ago crossed the Santa Catalina mountains to explore the area. He explains that they were attacked by a band of Apaches...What for does the stranger tell this mysterious tale? Is his appearance either accidental or deliberate?
