The Book of Snobs is a collection of satirical works by William Makepeace Thackeray first published in the magazine Punch as The Snobs of England, By One of Themselves. Published in 1848, the book was serialized in 1846/47 around the same time as Vanity Fair. 'Snob' word appeared in the lexicon of humanity in the end of the 18th century. Adoption of this term by Thackeray refers to people who look down on others without any sense of compassion who are "social inferior". This term rapidly gained popularity and became one of the main signers of social inequality.
