I heard through the grapevine that there was a story in the pulps which resembled the movie The Matrix. Of course the quest for this story started immediately, and that quest has been successful. I don't think anyone will ever accuse the Wachowski brothers of ripping off Manning and Pratt, but it is interesting to see some similar ideas used in this story which was published 70 years prior to their movie. This is not the story of people fighting to be free of the machines, as it is in The Matrix. Rather, it is a story of how the machines came to be.
