Two Military Executions

It is a short story about the earlier years of Civil War. Soldiers are still acclimating what war means for a generation of them have never known war. Private Bennett Greene strikes at Lieutenant William Dudley,who quickly reacts and has him thrown in prison.He is promptly charged and court-marshaled and will be shot in the morning.Next day Dudley visits him in the prison.Does William Dudley go to prison in order to escape Greene from prison or to get forgiveness? How should the soldiers prepare for such a chaotic world?
