"Regret" was first published in 1897 when it appeared in Chopin's short story collection "A Night in Acadia". The story is about a woman named Mamzelle Aurlie, that lived a lonely life, and she thought she is happy with the life she has. She had never thought of marrying and had never been in love. She was quite alone in the world, except of her dog Ponto, and servants, who lived in her cabins and worked her crops.
