To whom do we belong ? God or the world? Many of our daily preoccupations tend to suggest that we belong more to the world than to God. Even the slightest criticism?constructive or not--can make us angry, and feeling just a small hint of rejection makes can send us into a whirlpool of feeling down. However, a compliment can easily lift our spirits, and even a small amount of success can be exciting. As the author quotes, ?often we are like small boats on the ocean, completely at the mercy of the waves.?

Whether we feel as though we belong to the world or to our creator, one thing remains true: the world offers conditional love ? ?I will love you if you make a lot of money,? for instance, or, ?I will love you when we aren?t fighting.? God?s love, however, is unconditional, saying the complete opposite: ?I will love you if you do make a lot of money or if you don?t,? or even, ?I will love you even when you?re mad at me.??

Author Craig Deloney describes himself as living the same life as that of the prodigal son. He was lost, he was foolish, and he was running away from God rather than toward God. However, God continued to pursue him, speak to him, and persistently never gave up on him. When he finally ? as he calls it ? began walking ?toward home?, he realized he was wrapped up in the temptations, power, and lust of the world and needed to be in the arms of the God who loves him and so steadfastly never gave up on him.?
