Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog) - is a humorous novel, written by English writer and humorist Jerome Klapka Jerome, published in 1889. It is about a boating holiday on the Thames between Kingston and Oxford.
The book was at first a serious travel guide with accounts of local history and route, but the humorous elements took over and made it to the comic novel. One of distinctive features of book is that jokes seem to be fresh and witty even today.
The story based on Jerome and two his real friends, George Wingrave and Carl Hentschel (Harris in book) with whom J. often took boat trips. The dog is entirely fictional. The trip is a typical boating holiday in a Thames camping skiff.
