Scamstars of the Airwaves is a work of fiction based on fact: a massive, larcenous, nationwide scam that shook down the American public for one hundred million dollars in the early 1990's. It was a brilliantly conceived and flawlessly executed national rip-off involving the nation's airwave TV licensing rights. Starry-eyed investors, a government agency mired in bureaucratic controversy and the smoothest pitchmen to come down the pike since Elmer Gantry were among the players in the massive scam.
This national shell game trapped thousands of ordinary (and not so ordinary) folks: lawyers, stockbrokers, bankers, fiduciaries and a judge, to name a few. Class-action suits resulted against the boiler-room operators who sold the worthless paper and continued to do so even with states' cease-and-desist orders flapping in the breeze.
William L. Robinson presents a fictitious circumstance of how it could have all shaken out, presented with colorful characters and a touch of humor making for a quick-paced page-turning experience for the reader.
