Cynthia grew up in the ghetto and has a permanent chip on her shoulder for having to work twice as hard to get where she is today. She's angry at her co-workers, angry at herself and most of all angry for being all alone.

When Mark, an aspiring writer, meets a girl with a bad attitude in a coffee shop he's immediately drawn to her quirky personality. However, trying to break through her defenses proves to be a tough challenge, especially when she's afraid of relationships with white men.
