Lucky Stuart has just purchased an Apex robotic lovedoll the ultimate in synthetic companionship. Everything is coming up roses, right? There's just one problem, his lovedoll requires some very special programming. The Apex model features a very unique control interface allowing the user to literally experience what the robot feels, training it, experiencing th world through its featureless eyes, the ultimate video game. "Want it to cook your favorite meal? Then don the BME system and make it yourself, inside the doll," read the sales manual. "What better way to train your new robotic companion than to show it precisely how you prefer things done?"

That sounded interesting to Stu, and a little bit kinky, perhaps, but it promised to bring the lonely young man some very interesting company, and truth be told, experiencing the world through the doll's eyes was potentially exhilarating. However, what happens when the interface doesn't quite live up to expectations? When it seems to take on a life of its own? When it seems to cause memory loss? And, who is really programming whom?
