Rip Van Winkle

"Rip Van Winkle" is the short story published in 1819. The action takes place in the years before and after the American Revolutionary War. In a pleasant village lived kindly Rip Van Winkle, a colonial British-American villager of Dutch ancestry. One autumn day Van Winkle wandered up the mountains with his dog and discovered a group of ornately dressed, silent, bearded men who were playing nine-pins.
