The Fate of the Turtle is and Indian fable, that Lang included in The Olive Fairy book. The narrative follows a lake in a distant, hot country. All the beasts and animals lived there happily, and used the lake as they saw fit. Except for the old turtle, who was much older than any other living thing. Every one made good friends with the turtle. But the rains failed one summer, and the drought came and put the order of things at the lake to the test.
