The Three Musketeers is a historical novel and adventure written by noble french author Alexandre Dumas who frequently worked into the plot various injustices and gave the novel additional political aspect at the time he debated in France.
The Three Musketeers is a novel about adventures of a young man named d’Artagnan after he leaves his home in order to travel to Paris and joins The Musketeers of the Guard. The story takes place in 17th century. Besides d’Artagnan of musketeers there are three his inseparable friends named Athos, Porthos and Aramis. They live by the moto “all for one, one for all”. Adaptations of story tend to show d’Artagnan and musketeers as heroes, howewer the novel portrays less appealing characters, who are willing to commit violence over slight insults.
The story of d'Artagnan is continued in Twenty Years After and The Vicomte of Bragelonne: Ten Years Later. Those three novels by Dumas are together known as the d'Artagnan Romances.
