Jonathan Dune's world had already been shattered by the tragic death of his wife Beth. Her life was cut short by the actions of a drunk driver behind a wheel he shouldn't have been driving. This tragedy compounded the serious problems John was already encountering at this point in his life. Aside from working overtime because of layoffs John was having a reoccurring problem with depression and anxiety. Not to mention, a vampire by the name of Oz has been watching John from the shadows of the night for some time now. Oz has come to believe that John is the one foretold to free Rheeva the vampire queen and to finally put an end to the tyrannical false king Dracos Valconus.
When John sees a creepy green light whilst visiting his wife's grave he follows it and is finally brought to Oz who gives John an opportunity to start a new life and become more than what he sees in the mirror. John's new life is threatened by a secret group of vampire hunters known as The Order of the Silver Arrow, whose Grand Master will not stop until Oz is captured and put to death.
When the Order finally catches up to them, Oz is captured and John is beside himself with grief. While John broods in the practice arena he hears a voice calling his name and he starts to follow the voice and ends up in Oz's hidden library. In the library there is a gateway and it seems the voice is coming from the other side of the dark glassy surface. John steps through the entrance and finds himself in some kind of prison and sitting against the far wall is Rheeva the queen he must free. Rheeva explains to John what he must do to get Oz back and to free her from her captor. As a gift Rheeva lets John drink some of her blood bestowing powers beyond the normal vampire to him. John must now rise to his destined path or risk the loss of everything again.
