In this world, magic doesn't last forever.

Irulen is a young mage prone to debauchery who solves mysteries for a price. When he is called to a sleepy, snow-capped village in the north to investigate a string of ritualistic murders, he meets Farah, a sheltered yet spirited barmaid. Farah’s friend is already dead, and signs point that she may be next. Irulen races against time to find a sadistic killer.

But is this mystery just the beginning? Is their meeting a calling to their greater destinies? Or are Irulen and Farah being lured into the design of something much more diabolical? Will Irulen finish his quest before his magic runs out for good? Will Farah be able to keep him from the darkness?
