Five years previously, Maria's twenty year old son Daniel died in a tragic motorbike accident and thus began her desperate quest for understanding and resolution as she tries to steady herself against unimaginable loss.
Whilst coping with her own raw grief, she knows she must regain composure for the sake of her two older children, Francesca and Thomas.
As Maria moves forward - both geographically and emotionally - normal family life is reflected in events such as the sad passing of her beloved father and the joyous arrival of her first grandchild.
Travelling to Sicily, she meets a true friend in Harvey who has also suffered loss. He becomes a steadfast confidant and offers Maria a guiding hand through to calmer waters.
Slowly, Maria dares to hope that, rather than shutting down, her world is opening up to all sorts of possibilities and there is real optimism for what the future may hold.
