The Connecticut Corpse Caper chronicles the antics of seven inheritance recipients during an unusual week-long stay in a huge eerie Connecticut house, as witnessed by weather announcer Jill Jocasta Fonne. Eccentric Aunt Mat’s will stipulates that if one recipient leaves the get-together early, his or her share will be divided among those remaining. As it happens, one does—when he dies the first evening.
All characters have a secret to share, as Jill and her two associates, Rey and Linda, discover when they step out of their everyday professions to take on the roles of amateur sleuths. Others soon join in the sleuthing and the bumbling, stumbling—murder and mayhem—begin.
Enter dead bodies and legal sorts. Enter Fred, the resident ghost, singing his favorite song. Enter hidden passageways (literally). And, finally, enter not-so-dead Aunt Mat. Fingers begin to point and tongues start to wag; everyone is quick to accuse the other. Even six past fatal Moone accidents suddenly seem to have been anything but accidental. The common conclusion: anyone could be a diabolical murderer.
Through research, trial and error, and just good old plain luck, the three young women discover who has been doing the killings at the mysterious Moone mansion. Before everything can be clarified, the killer’s voice is silenced. While indulging in drinks to numb pent-up tension, the killer’s helper arrives. Who knew? Apparently the trio didn’t, and the tension returns—threefold.
The helper is felled, and paramedics and officers arrive. All is explained and there are no loose ends. . . . Not quite. As Jill, Linda, Rey and Aunt Moone unwind, the grande dame nonchalantly announces she is the one who has been wiping out Moone family members (she never did care for the arrogant lot very much).
