A wannabe romance writer enlists the help of an unusual critique group: a struggling young couple seeking marital advice, an elderly psychic who predicts doom and gloom, and a retired bank robber who needs help recovering his hidden loot. While Jack continues to create the worse romance stories ever, he does show an uncanny ability to help solve other people's problems.

Is Jack's dream of becoming a successful romance writer wishful thinking on his part? Sarah Prettywell, the editor-in-chief of a romance publishing house thinks Jack is the worst romance writer she has ever met. According to her, his chances of selling any of his ridiculous romance stories are nil to zero. When all appears lost, will Jack find a way to solve his own dilemma?
