“My Brother Sam Is Dead” by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier was first published in 1974. There is a highly realistic description of the events which occurred in the American Revolution.

The book was named an ALA Notable Children’s Book. It was also nominated for a National Book Award in 1975. Between 1900 to 2000 the book remained one of the most frequently challenged works of fiction.

The author had particularly written this novel to recreate a particular moment in the Civil War. The story has been presented from a child’s viewpoint. However, the book is sometimes offensive.
