Ready Reference Treatise: The Man of Mode

“The Man of Mode” is subtitled “Sir Fopling Flutter.” This play by George Etherege was written in 1676. It is a Restoration Comedy.

The play was first performed on 2nd March 1676. The play revolves around the attempts of the libertine Dorimant while he is trying to win over the young heiress Harriet. He happens to have an earlier affair, but he wants to disengage himself from that affair with Mrs. Loveit.

Dorimant is the central character and the protagonist of the play. Sir Fopling is there in the subtitle of the play, but he is only one of the many minor characters in the play.
