Book 22: Streets Paved with Gold

Tabitha’s family had grown up and left home. She was divorced and retired and she was lonely. This was probably why she had taken it upon herself to feed the wild cats living under a motorway bridge near to her home. It was her hobby. The cats were her substitute children. The place under the bridge was becoming a rubbish dump. Why didn’t the council do something about it? Vagrants lived there. Then, she came across a street child living in the rubbish. How could she feed the wild cats when street children went hungry? Street children were as wild as her feral cats. Tabitha wanted to report the child to the Social Services, but the child said he had a paying job working for the Zama-Zama, or illegal gold miners. Horrors! Ten years old and working down a mine. What should Tabitha do?
