Nicodemus Dean is no detective. He doesn't even play one on TV. He has a successful business as a stage combat trainer, and he doesn't need any more drama.

But when the wife of a murder victim turns out to be a fan from his short-lived career in film, he is called on to get close to her and find out what she knows.

But when it turns out that comforting a friend and catching a killer isn't as easy as the movies make it seem, Nicodemus may have to learn a whole new meaning to what it is to Survive by the Sword.
