Checking On Ethan

From the book: “Carol was a school teacher, and asked me in advance of one particular weekend if I’d check on her son, Ethan, from time to time, while she went to an educational conference in Chicago. She said her other son, Dustin would be staying at his grandmother’s house out in the country, but that Ethan didn’t like it out there,even though he was 18 and was old enough to look after himself.”
While he’s ‘checking in’, - he’s also ‘checking him out’ – teasing him a bit, asking him if he ever hears anything when his mom and the author are making love. The teasing is progressive and aggressive; and leads to persuasion, seduction, and conquest. But the conquest is only preamble, and leads to “checking in”, more often. Turns out that everybody is getting a education, in that household.
