A miracle for all but himself, many are unconvinced Kaiyu Tana is the Gods’ Hands and the government seeks court approval to have him treated for psychoses—against his will, if necessary. His friends fight for him to remain at the Temple of Bright Waters, but Kai’s outwardly ideal father has also applied to facilitate Kai’s care and has many under his perfect-parent spell.
But not Kai. He knows if returned to his father the abuse he suffered growing up will continue, only far worse—he now has something his father wants. As Kai strives for control, hoping to impress the court doctors before they give their final recommendations, he realises his father has invaded even that confidential interview, his own malicious doctor sent to torment, making Kai seem far more disturbed. Through love of his friends, his own fire and maybe something more, Kai recovers composure again and again. But is it enough to foil Naos Tana and remain with his friends, wife and surrogate father, safe in the only true home he’s ever known?
Set in the Four Free Areas, a technologically advanced world where Gods watch from rivers and fantastical arts are practiced by wizards and priests, Trials of the Gods’ Hands: The Grid is an extension to the fifth instalment of the story cycle Treading Twisted Lines with Darren, Maddi, and Kai.
