The Traveller's Cage

In 1865, William Penderton escapes from London's Millbank Prison. A fugitive from the law, William must arrange a steamship's passage to safety in Canada. Freedom is elusive, however -- past mistakes, family heartbreak, and William's struggle with who to love conspire to keep him bound up in his own inner prison. As William works toward freedom, his life becomes complicated by the struggles of those around him. Personal loss and the failures of others battle against the saving power of love and self-discovery. This battle pushes him toward a final, irrevocable decision that determines the rest of his life.
