Most of the kids at Portland, Oregon's Heritage Camp are Asian, like Isaac. Some are biracial, like Isaac's brainy new friend, judo champion and human thesaurus Paul Shaw. And some are disabled, like camp director Ty Janssen, and Isaac's crush, sexy one-legged handful Sophie Rice. But they all have something in common: they were all adopted. Turns out they all have secrets, too - especially Isaac, who has more at stake than anyone. Except, maybe, for Detective Mikie O'Malley, who's called in to investigate sudden death of popular counselor Paul Anderson. It looks like a tragic accident - severely allergic to peanuts, Anderson collapsed in front of dozens of campers - but there are details that don't make sense to Mikie, who used to be an ER nurse: where did the epi-pen cases go? Why did the 19 year old Anderson make out a will just weeks earlier? Why are there hundreds of nude photos on his phone and laptop? As she tries to uncover the truth, Mikie's dealing with a new partner she's not at all sure about, a boyfriend with rock and roll aspirations, and a mysterious inheritance that has her questioning what family really means.
