In 1965, MI-8's greatest spy is captured and ready for torture. Using his skills and tools of the trade he escapes and hunts down his captor, but before he can do so, a portal in time opens up and allows the villain to flee. However, clues were left behind including a copy of The Dóchas Courier from 50 years in the future.

In 2016, a mysterious and styishly dressed, grey haired man causes chaos in the Dóchas bingo hall, leaving dead bodies in his wake. When DCS Gail Hannah arrives on the scene she is shocked to find a man from her past that she believed to be very dead. Due to her personal history with the suspect, DI Pontius Smith takes over the investigation and finds the truth about MI-8, their connection with Dóchas and the strangest double cross ever.
