Los Angeles, California, the land of sunshine and make believe. It's the Golden Age of blockbuster movies and huge profits. Hollywood film studios are in danger of being over taken by Mafia racketeers. The studios are threatened with union strikes to freeze production. George Hoffman, famous Hollywood director and wealthiest mogul -- hires James Blake, ace detective, to protect him against the racketeers. The situation becomes volatile when Hoffman is killed and Blake becomes a target.
