Dessa dreams of the sun in her hair, and sand between her toes, but somewhere in the back of her mind she always knew she'd be given to Aquidae. Part of her hoped it would be assigned to her half-sister, Scout. But that was not to be. As she undergoes a breeding far more intense than anything she'd been prepared for she discovers the kings plans for her future, and it's something she wouldn't wish on anyone. She's in love with her head drone, Demeter, but suspects her loyalties lie with the king.
