Second Edition, November 2016.
Alex lives a life in fear and isolation, trapped and controlled by her background – a victim of stalking and controlling behaviour. After years of attempting to escape misery by starting her life over through various aliases, she has resigned herself to a less complicated existence, where mere survival is key.
Despite this, following aspirations as a child to flee her background and make something of herself, Alex has managed to become a highly achieving young woman. Yet her success hides a private life of secrets, lies and a lack of freedom. Alex has essentially become a woman of two halves and operates accordingly, in deception and loneliness.
When she meets her opposite in Seph, an uninhibited and confident artist hiding his own secrets and dubious ways, her preconceptions are blown away and she is forced to revaluate her life. She can suddenly see outside her own restricted existence, visualising normality and even happiness.
Seph wants to be the one to open Alex's eyes, to offer her sanctuary and possibly save her. He thinks loving her and keeping her safe will be enough, but Seph has his own demons to deal with.
To their own surprise, the couple forge a relationship, endeavouring to face the challenges ahead by combining their strength. Seph has unexpected responsibilities while Alex finally experiences a small taste of freedom she never thought possible.
But is that glimpse of freedom, and Seph's devotion, enough to change her lifetime of negative and self-destructive patterns and habits?
Can Alex find the courage to dare dream of a new future or will she fall into old habits and simply accept her fate, and the tragedy that awaits her?
