Crimean War Victoria Crosses: A Selection of Significant Awards

The first one hundred and eleven awards of Victoria Cross were gained by men who served during the Crimean War, and therefore that campaign produced a number of firsts and superlatives concerning the prestigious medal. Among them are the first deed to be rewarded with the medal, the first man to be gazetted and the first to wear it, the most Victoria Crosses for a single action, and one of the most famous actions in British military history. Complemented with biographical tributes, most of the information is taken from the author’s JWB Historical Library, compiled over four decades, which is one of the largest collections of its kind in the world.
