Sisters in Terror

Nobel laureate Dr. Bergwald disappears on the way to Stockholm. Vancouver P.I. Bill Nelson is tasked with finding him. Bill relates the story in the first person as he travels to Scandinavia. His friend, Max Altman, discovers that Bergwald’s assistant and lover Andrea Sullivan is a foreign agent. Also the invention can be turned into a lethal weapon.

Bill’s first stop is Copenhagen. He makes an inquiry at the hotel, but the inventor has left for Sweden. In the evening Bill walks along Stroget, the famous mall in Copenhagen. Here he is followed. A confrontation leaves the stalker dead.

In Malmo, Bill tries to discover where Dr. Bergwald is staying. He overhears a young woman asking about Dr. Bergwald. Realizing her inquiry might alert the opposition, he asks to speak with her. After her initial misgivings she agrees to listen. As Bill is talking, he notices another woman. This one was also at the hotel in Copenhagen.
He convinces the young lady, Lena Gustafsson, who is a reporter they may be in danger. She follows him as they escape to another hotel. Even this is too close to the unknown enemy. As they leave the area they are spotted. A bullet grazes Lena, but they escape to another hotel. In the aftermath of their ordeal they fall in love.

They still don’t know who their enemy is and Bill contacts Max. He will fax the information to Lena’s employer. Dressed as a bike messenger, Bill retrieves the document. As he leaves the building, a car tries to run him down. He again evades his pursuer.
Max’s fax describes an all-female terrorist group called The Second Sister. They recruited Andrea Sullivan who delivered her lover to the terrorists. Lena discovers a name she recognizes. A young woman, the daughter of a wealthy Swedish industrialist, Arvid Soderstrom. Lena leads Bill to a castle owned by Mr. Soderstrom.
Here they find Andrea Sullivan locked in a dungeon. She is left to starve to death. Before they can interrogate Andrea she is murdered. Lena thinks the killer looked like the daughter of the industrialist. Not able to find Dr. Bergwald they return to Malmo. Now they have another piece of information. There are two Soderstrom girls. They are identical twins. This explains how one girl could seemingly be in two places at the same time

Another terrorist organization kills the two leaders of the Second Sister and is now looking for the twins who are holding Dr. Bergwald. Bill and Lena zero in on another of Soderstrom’s holdings. This one on the east coast of Sweden.
They are captured by the twins and finally meet up with Dr. Bergwald also a prisoner. The kidnappers need the doctor to turn the laser into a weapon. The three are moved to a small harbor. Before reaching a boat gunfire erupt from a nearby hill. This is answered from the boat.
One twin is fatally wounded. Bill, Lena, Dr. Bergwald and the other twin flee in the car, as a helicopter sprays them with bullets. Both women are hit, Lena is wounded, the twin is killed, and Dr. Bergwald is recaptured. Bill and Lena escapes, but he is arrested when help arrives.

When Bill is released he contacts Soderstrom. He is directed to another of the industrialist’s estates. Before going, Bill contacts three agents of the Swedish Security Police. Together they will try to expose Arvid. Upon arrival at his estate, Bill and the three SAPO agents are taken prisoners. They escape as the estate is attacked by another faction. Soderstrom tries to flee, but Bill catches up with him. As Bill brings his prisoner back Arvid is killed by a rouge SAPO agent. Bill neutralizes the killer.

New leads point Bill to a boat anchored in an archipelago. A Swedish SWAT team rescues Dr. Bergwald. Bill Nelson is credited with finding the scientist. Still, it is a bittersweet return flight to Canada. While Bill was successful in finding Dr. Bergwald, he and Lena end their affair.
