A Piedmont Airlines Fairchild-Hiller 227B crashed on its approach to Kanawha Airport in Charlestown, West Virginia on August 10, 1968. In what became Piedmont's final plane crash, 35 people were killed including the flight crew and all but two passengers. The airliner was flying into a dense fog that gathered near a runway approach and refused to dissipate prior to the landing of Flight 230. The crew was forced to use their own flying expertise in the absence of a glide control apparatus that had been inoperative at Kanawha for several months time. My e-book looks closely at the disaster from the perspectives of eyewitnesses, survivors, investigators and rescuers.
